Named after one of the oldest mermaid myths in 1000 B.C., Atargatis is the Assyrian goddess of the water, fertility, and life (which is associated with water). After Atargatis accidentally killed her lover, she turned herself half fish so she could stay hidden in the water. This piece is adorned with peacock ore, antique copper, and copper feathers.
